वर्दीतला माणुस
अतुल अभ्यंकर निवर्तल्याची बातमी गेल्या बुधवारी बातम्यात दाखवली गेली तेव्हा हाच तो अतुल का?असा प्रश्न मला पडला.शारदाश्रम तांत्रिक विभागात १९९० -९२ या काळात एक गोरापान,ऊंच मुलगा मझ्याच विभगात म्हणजे इलेक्ट्रिक मेंटेनन्स ह्या अभ्यासक्रमास शिकत होता.खरतर अभ्यासक्रमाला भरपुर विद्यार्थी असल्याने सगळे चेहरे लक्षात राहतिलच अस नाही.कनिष्ठमहाविद्यालयात प्रवेश घेतलेले विद्यार्थी, हि दोन वर्ष छान एन्जॉय करतात.आमच्या विभागात प्रत्याक्षिकांवर भर असल्याने अभ्यासाचा ताण कमीच होता.सुरवातीची दोन चार वर्षे प्रवेशासाठी मर्यादित अभ्यासक्रम होते, या काळात दादर परिसरातीलच विद्यार्थी संख्येने जास्त होते. राहुल महाजन तेव्हाच इथे शिकत होता. म्हणून हि दोन वर्षे अतुलने मस्त एन्जॉय केली.खोड्यांसाठी मारही खाल्ला,तेव्हा शिक्षा करायची मुभा होती.पालक आपल्या मुलाला शिक्षा झाली तरी जाब विचारायला येत नसत.अतुल माझ्याकडचा अभ्यासक्रम आटोपताच खर तर कंपनीत ट्रेनी म्हणून लागायला हवा होता पण त्यांनी कीर्तीमध्ये आर्टला प्रवेश घेतल्यानंतर आमचा संपर्क तुटला.खर तर आताच्या विद्यार्थ्यांना आपल्या शाळेविषयी तितकीशी आपुलकी नाही हेच खरे.आजही येणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांकडे अधून मधून आम्ही माजी विद्यार्थ्यांची चौकशी करत असतो.पण काळाच्या ओघात.अतुलची चौकशी केली नाही.खर तर शाळा हे कोणत्याही कलेसाठी पाहिलं व्यासपीठ आहे.शाळा कॉलेजच्या वार्षिक उत्सवात मुले रंगमंच्यावर पाहिलं पाऊल ठेवतात, ती त्यांच्यासाठी डेअरिंग-बेअरिंग ह्याची संधी आणि कसोटी असते.अतुलने ही कसोटी ह्या वार्षिक दिनातच पार केली होती.कीर्ती कॉलेजने त्याला,त्याच्यातील कालाकाराला संधी दिली.मागच्या बुधवारी अतुल गेल्यावर माझे सहकारी आणि मित्र प्रकाश बाबरे ह्यांचा फोन आला सर तुमचा विद्यार्थी काल अचानक वारला, आपण त्याच्या घरी भेटायला जायचं ना ? त्याच्या निधनाची बातमी दाखवली तरिही हाच तो अतुल, ज्याला खोडकर वृत्तीसाठी मी शिक्षा करायचो हे मला खर वाटत नव्हत. जय मल्हार सीरिअल संबंधी मी ऐकुन होतो पण मी कधीही एपिसोड पहिला नव्हता हे कबुल करायला हरकत नाही.पण बातमी पेपरात वाचली तेव्हा त्याला उत्कृष्ट कलाकाराच त्याच्या हेगडी प्रधान भूमिकेच बक्षिस मिळाल होत हे वाचून आनंद झाला.पण आहा रे दुर्दैव हा आनंद ज्याच्याकडे व्यक्त करायला हवा होता तो अतुल लांबच्या प्रवासाला निघून गेला होता. मी त्याच्या खेड गल्लीतल्या घरी भेटण्यासाठी बाबरे बरोबर गेलो, इमारतीखाली एक गृहस्ताना विचारलं , “ अतुलच घर ? “ त्यांनी पहिल्या माळ्यावरची अतुलची खोली दाखवली.त्याच्या आईशी, बहिणीशी बोलण झाल, त्याची पत्नी बिच्चारी घडल्या प्रकारान सुन्न झाली होती. मुलुंडला हा दुर्दैवी प्रकार घडला होता तिथेच त्याचे काका राहतात. ते ही आम्ही भेटायला गेलो तेव्हा खोलीवर होते. अतुल विषयी आठवणी निघाल्या. अतुल खर तर बालमोहन शाळेचा विद्यार्थी पण दहावी नंतर त्यांनी आमच्या कनिष्ट महाविद्यालयात तांत्रिक विषयासाठी प्रवेश घेतला, पण अचानक बारावी नंतर टेक्निकल बाजू सोडून तो कीर्तीला गेला नियतीच्या मनात सारे प्रवाशी घडीचे साठी एक उत्तम कलाकार द्यायचा होता.त्या बुधवारी अतुल गोरेगावच आपल शुटींग आटोपून दादरला न जाता मुलुंडला त्याच्या आते भावाच्या खोलीवर राहायला आला होता.तिथ तो एकटाच होता.सकाळी त्याला मुलुंडमध्ये काही काम असल्याने सकाळी काम आटोपून तो घरी जाणार होता पण ……..ह्या पण शब्दान त्याच घरी जाण अश्यक्य करून टाकल.
रात्री त्याला अचानक छातीत कळ आली, मदतीसाठी तो ब्लॉक बाहेर पडला. मदतीसाठी त्यांनी हाकही मारली पण सोसायटी मधले पदाधिकारी येवून त्याला मदत मिळेपर्यंत नियतीन त्याला गाठल होत. त्याच्या निधनाची बातमी कोणाला प्रथम सांगायची? हा प्रश्न तेव्हा ड्युटीवर असणाऱ्या एका पोलिसाला पडला. कोणीतरी त्याला त्यांचा काकांचा पत्ता सांगितला.हा पोलीसातला सदगृहस्त त्याचा काकांच्या घरी जावून उभा राहिला काकांचे पिकलेले केस आणि वय पाहून म्हणाला “काका कुणी दुसर घरात नाही?” ते म्हणाले “नाही. मुलगा दिल्लीला जाण्यासाठी नुकताच एअरपोर्टला गेला आहे.’ पोलीस भाऊ म्हणाला “काका तुम्हाला बी.पी.,शुगर काही नाही ना ! “ ते ऐकून खर तर काका धास्तावले तरीही म्हणाले “काय झालय सांगाल का? मी भरपुर सोसलं आहे पाहिलं आहे,माझ्या मनाची तयारी आहे.” नुकताच मुलगा दिल्लीला जाण्यासाठी बाहेर पडला होता,त्याच तर काही झाल नसेल ना! हि शंका त्यांच्या मनात आली तरिही ते स्थितप्रज्ञ राहत म्हणाले ”हा,साहेब काय झालय सांगताय ना?” त्यांनी अतुलच्या निधनाची बातमी त्यांना सांगितली. त्यांचा त्या पोलिसाच्या सांगण्यावर विश्वास बसेना,अतुल दादरला राहणारा बर त्यांना काहीही त्याच्या इथे येण्याबाबत माहित नव्हत,म्हणून ते म्हणाले तुम्ही अतुल अभ्यंकर बद्दलच सांगताय ना! पोलिसांनी मन डोलावली. “काका,अतुलच्या घरी कोण असत?,एकट्या मावशीच असतील तर लगेच बातमी सांगू नका” अभ्यंकर काकांच्या तुलनेत वयान लहान असणारा तो पोरसवदा पोलीस काकानाच सूचना देत होता.काकांना त्या खाकी वर्दीतल्या पोलिसात एक माणुस दिसला. त्यांनीच अभ्यंकरना अतुलच शव जिथे होत तिथे न्हेल. त्यांनी दिल्लीला जाणाऱ्या आपल्या मुलाला बोलावून घेतलं.पुढचे सगळे सोपस्कार पार पाडेपर्यंत तो पोलीस त्यांच्या सोबत होता.जेथे साध्या गोष्टीसाठी वर्दीतीतल्या माणसाकडून पैशाची मागणी केली जाते तिथे आज शुद्ध हेतून काम करणाऱ्या पोलिसाचा चेहरा त्यांना पाहायला मिळाला.
चारच दिवसापूर्वी दादरच्या फुल मार्केटच्या दिशेने असणाऱ्या रेल्वे पुलावर एक लहान मुलगा रडत होता. आपल्या आई बाबांपासून दुरावल होता म्हणून मी एका हवालदारांना हे सांगितले. “ साहेब तिथे एक मुलगा वाट चुकलाय जरा त्याला दादर स्टेशनवर नेवून अनौउंस कराल का? त्याचे पालक घाबरले असतील. त्याचं उत्तर मार्मिक होत.साहेब तुम्हीच चौकीत जावून सांगा कि ,काय होतंय आम्ही गेलो कि साहेब आमच्याच पाठी लचांड लावून देतात,” मला प्रसंग आठवला आणि हसू आल कुठे आपल काम टाळणारा दादरचा तो इसम आणि कुठे हा तरणा बाण मदतीला धावून नात जोडू पाहणारा पोलीसगडी.खरच दोन माणसात तेही एकाच क्षेत्रत असणाऱ्या इतका पराकोटीचा फरक का? माणसा माणसातल्या नातेसंबंधाच्या भिंती धुसर होत असतांना एक पोरसवदा पोलीस कुणा अनोळखी मुलाच्या आईशी मावशीच आणि त्याच्या काकांशी जवळकीच नात जोडू पाहत आहे हा चांगला संकेत आहे वर्दीतही अजून माणुस शिल्लक आहे हे आपल नशीब म्हणायचं !
